Learning

Please answer all of the following questions: (Make sure you proofread and use complete sentences)These should be elaborate thoughts, not one sentence repsonses!

1) After viewing Mr. Fisch's world-renown "Did you Know" powerpoint, what ideas strike you about the facts presented?
How does this make you think about the world and your place in it? How could this impact you?

2) Also, what did Danny Macaskill's, "Inspired Bikes" make you think about perseverance, hard work, potential, etc...? How can you apply what you saw from his adventures, doing bike tricks, to your own life?

3) What is the value of learning? What is your role as a learner?

  1. I really enjoyed Mr.Fisch's Powerpoint! The ideas that struck me where more of questions. I wondered how the U.S. can have such a good school system yet still have so many less honors students! India has more honors students the all of Americas children that's amazing! It really makes me re-think what I previously thought about the U.S. I thought we were leading in a lot of things like schooling and others but i turns out we are not! I can really impact me and everyone! I try to be the best I can be but as a whole group we will never add up to the ambition of the other country's. If America were to put more funding into schools rather then stupid things like video games maybe we would have a chance!

Inspired Bikes was really cool. It really showed me that you are bound to fail once or twice and you will only prefect a trick or problem or any other adventure is you get back up and do it again and again. I can apply this to school and all the other activities I do. In school I get especially frustrated with math but if I don't push through I won't complete what need to be done. Also in horseback riding I do barrels. If I don't practice over and over i will never be at the level I need to be at. This video is very easy to relate to anyone's daily life except for the fact that Danny Macaskill can do amazing bike tricks that most others can't even attempt.

Learning and being a leader go hand in hand. They are both very valuable assets and can help you with your everyday life. Without a leader most learning can't be done. Without learning being a leader cannot be achieved.

  3. I really liked watching Mr. Fisch's powerpoint. The ideas I had were not very significant, because I heard about how bad the U.S. has been doing towards school. This just shows how many more dedicated and hardworking people there are in other countries despite wars and other problems. I remember back in the days when America was leading in education and spending less money on brain-melting activities. Now we spend hundreds of millions of dollars on video games instead of school activities and materials. Even though I enjoy video games as much as anything, I feel that education should be a larger priority then passive leisure.(Not including reading).

Inspiring Bikes was amazing, jaw dropping, and epic as it showed how dedication, perseverance, practice, and most importantly failure can help someone accomplish reachable goals of all kinds. If I were to add these virtues into my school-work as well as sports, it's very likely I would become highly successful at what I do. You also got to take a few risk, and admit and learn from your mistakes, or you won't go anywhere. Danny Macaskill's got skill.

Learning is important just like breathing. When you learn, you overcome obstacles that were otherwise impossible. As you learn more doors open for you, allowing you to do wonderful things for yourself and others. However, when it comes down to it, you can listen to people speak and read as much as you want, but it's up to you to learn and use what you learned. Stay open minded with your ears open, and you mouth shut(depending on the situation), and you'll be surprised what you hear.

  4. First of all I thoroughly enjoyed mr. Fisch’s Powerpoint Presentation. I thought it was very interesting to see the ratio of India’s honor students to U.S students. It shows that a country like India is more hardworking than the U.S. It makes me feel like our country is letting others get on top of us, so it motivates me to be the best I can be, and then, even better.

I thought Inspired Bicycles was one of the most inspiring videos I have ever seen. I was very cool to see him fall a few times, but then get back up and succeed on so many levels. I could apply that to own life, because sometimes I fall and have a hard time getting back up. Though it inspired me to get back up and that things get better.

In my opinion, learning has a value that I can not even begin to comprehend. If a person can’t learn then they have no chance to succeed in life at all, (in my opinion). My role as a learner is be able to learn, and then immediately after that pass on my knowledge to others so that they can learn.

  5. 1. Some things that shocked me as I was watching Mr.Fisch’s world unknown “Did you know” PowerPoint are the things about the education in other countries, for example China and India has more honor students than we have students combined. I knew that China was really strict about their education I just didn’t know that India was like that. It made me realize that a student all the way across the world is completely different than who I am as a student here in America, and that we learn about. We don’t really think about going to school we just go. This could impact me because when we grow up we won’t impact the world as much as someone in China or India because smarter people means smarter world.
    2. Danny’s video “Inspired Bicycles” made me think out perseverance and passion the most. The reason his video made me think about perseverance was because he NEVER gave up on what he wanted to concur and achieve, all of his perseverance got him through the struggle and the thoughts of wanting to give up. I also saw passion in the video because Danny was so passionate about what he was doing he didn’t give up on that first time he didn’t get it right or fell. I can apply these things to my life in many ways, in sports, school, a job, and even hobbies you want to fulfill. In sports is a big way you can apply this in your life because what he was doing was a sport. The way that he overcame all his fears and frustration forgot all of them because he was passionate about what he was doing.
    3. The value of learning is so largely important because you can do so much with knowledge. Creating anything new or learning anything new takes learning something. I believe that without learning out world would be so bland and boring, we need to want to learn so we can teach others to so. My role as a learner is to want to be eager to learn and make that title shine as “a learner”. We can chose to just sit back and let everything just pass you by but knowledge is what our future depends on.

  7. 1.) After watching the Power Point "Did you know" The facts really caught me by a surprise. Because throughout the power point it shows how great other countries are compared to America, And how they might be better and/or smarter then us. It was also shocking that India has a lot more babies then America, And that China has a lot more people and they are really intelligent. I also thought it was interesting how America has invested more in video game companies then athletics or academics thats why americans are obese and un-athletic..... if we would take that money and put it into something useful like sports or academics or something more useful. Then maybe we wouldn't be last in every single category. And we'd be better over all.

2.)Watching Danny Macaskill's "inspired bikes" made me really think about the hard work that he put forth into his biking and how he committed to getting better and mastering all the tricks. It also shows that if you really want to do something that you can all you have to do is try and practice until your satisfied. I can apply what I saw in his video to everything I do in life wether it is sports, academics or anything else I want to do in the future. This video really inspired me to keep working hard in everything even if you mess up or don't do it right, if you keep practicing you will master whatever you want.

3.) The value of learning varies on the person you ask, But to me the value of learning is very important. Because without learning anything you wouldn't have anything or anything to build on, Most great inventions were built off of something else. The value of learning is very important in any culture because without learning we wouldn't have much. Learning is always a good thing because you can learn from good and bad things like peoples mistakes and what they did correctly. And then you can expand there thinking into something better. My role as a learner is to absorb as much knowledge in life as possible from anyone and anything. Because no matter who they are the have some knowledge and can teach you something. And by the time I am older I hope to have absorbed as much knowledge into my brain as possible so then i know what to do and what not to do, I then would also have some to pass on to other people.

  8. After watching Mr.Fisch Power point "Did You Know." With all the different facts that he put into the powerpoint amazed me that that much is going on in different places around the world and how its going to affect us in the future and how we can fix it now before it becomes to hard to fix. An interesting fact of the power point was that the fact that we're not the smartest in our own language. We were the first few that have spoke English longer that other parts of the world and there are countries that can speak and understand it better that us was very interesting to me. This was a very interesting powerpoint and it was full of facts that i would have never thought that would ever happen.

Danny Macaskill's he had showed that if you keep up with what you want to become or do in the future. Danny showed that very well by even constitutionally failing and not giving up until he gets it. Danny would be very overspent with trying to get that one trick down and get it perfected and give it a try. As Danny would do tricks and fall off or crash he would get back up and try it again until he got it. This could relate to my life because it would show if something is hard for you to do something that means that you are working your mind. Also when he wouldn't give up it shows that if you don't give up you will gain something in return.

Value of learning is something that if you didn't learn then you will not be able to do much without it. Learning is what builds a city or even a continent to be very powerful and very smart. Learning will invent things that will help out in the future and it will help keep people safe in the world. The best part of learning is that it all will come back and help you in the future with an other project that you have to do or it will help out when your getting a job people will look at that and see if you would do your work. My role as a learner is to be taught new things and to use that in the future for something that is required. Also being a learner is to take things that I have learned and put it to good use and use it wisely.

  9. #1: After watching Mr. Fish's power point I can say that two things truly strike me. The first is how we are preparing ourselves for problems we haven’t discovered yet with technology that doesn’t exist. This fact intrigued me because it shows how much things can change in a short time span and we may not always be prepared. The other fact was the sheer amount of people who were being born in India and China. These facts showed me that compared to the rest of the world I am nothing more than a nameless speck. Also how little we truly know about today’s world.

#2: Danny Macaskill's inspired bicycles was a true story of endurance and perseverance. This showed me that what truly can be accomplished if you set your mind and your heart to it. These lessons cn be used in my life in so many aspects. Sports, grades, and personal life need both of these things to be successful.

#3: The value of learning is a big one. It pushes us forward, not only as students but as a nation. As we go forward in our learning we push America forward in its progression. Learning is what got us out of the stone age and so will it get us out of any predicaments we run in to in this age. My role as a learner is to help that progression and ensure that I can continue to do so.

  10. 1.) After I viewed the power point, I felt quite small. I realized that I was one in billions and billions of people. Sure I knew this before but, I guess I never knew what billions and billions was really like. A fact that really stood out to me was how many babies are constantly being born in China and India! The delivery rooms over there must be extremely busy because so many of them are being born by the minute! This could impact me because, the more people in China and India, the more pollution. Eventually if there too many people, our world could get super polluted and dirty. That means plants and animals could start to go extinct.

2.) Inspired Bikes made me think about the fact that hard work really does pay off. He worked non stop trying to get onto that fence. Once he did he was able to do lots of other tricks. I think the fence is like school. If we work on our school work and get good grades it can lead us to lots of other cool "tricks" such as college, jobs, and a more successful life style.

3.) The value of learning is extremely important. I realized this when I was learning about all the different countries in the world that don't let girls' in particular attend school. Most of these girls were just dyeing to receive an education. This made me realize that I'm lucky to be able to attend school. Don't get me wrong, it's not my favorite thing in the world to do; but I'm lucky enough to have the requirement to go to school and get a good education.
I believe that my role as a learner is to be a sponge and soak in all the knowledge I can. Also staying open minded. You never know what knowledge you could possibly "soak" up!

  11. 1. Mr. Fisch's "Did You Know" PowerPoint was very interesting to read. It showed me that the world is huge and China is progressing a lot faster that America. This also showed me how small I am compared to the rest of the world and also how much of a difference I make.

    2. Danny Macaskill's, "Inspired Bicycles" showed me how if you keep trying the things you do, you can become very good at what you worked on. Perseverance is everywhere and everyone uses it. If we didn't have perseverance we would not be able to get good at anything. Danny Macaskill's video proves that perseverance gets you further in life.

    3. The value of learning is crucial to the human race. If we did not have learning we would not have technology or have explored the rest of the world. We also would not be as smart in building and surviving. Some people would die just because they are not eating. all in all, the value of learning is very important.

My role as a learner is to listen to the teacher and take in everything she/he says to me.

  12. After viewing Mr. Fisch’s “Did you Know” powerpoint, I was amazed by the facts I learned. Some I already knew, but most were extremely surprising. It made me think about how much we have learned and accomplished as mankind in a whole. Then again it made me feel that we may be losing sight of the most important things in life. Yes we have accomplished a lot, but huge amounts of money have been poured into technology. In the video it states “by 2013 a supercomputer will be built that exceeds the computation capability of the human brain.” That scares me. I don’t want a machine to have the same or higher capability of me. I understand that technology is very important and will continue to increase but there may come a time where we will have to stop before our technology becomes dangerous. It seems that we are already losing sight of the most important things in life because of technology. The video made me feel like it was my responsibility to not let technology take over. At the same time I felt inferior because as one person there is not much I can do about this issue. It impacts me greatly. I live and breathe technology just as everyone else does. Everything I do is through technology. From school and home work to heating up leftovers.
The moral of Danny Macaskill’s “Inspired Bikes” is “If you persevere and work hard you can accomplish anything.” It proves that hard work really does pay off. I believe that no matter what you try, you will succeed as long as you work hard at it. If you work at everything in life the way Danny works with bikes you will succeed in everything you do. Danny sets a great example to everyone.
Learning is essential. Knowledge is power. Its so important. It will affect everything in our life from the job we have to the type of person we are. I think everyone should do their best to learn as much as they can, not just about english and math but about things going on in the world. But you have to be open minded to what other people think. The people around us are who we learn the most from and if we close our mind to our own opinions we will never learn. As a learner my role is to do my best to be engaged in the world around me, and take what I learn to make the world better.

  13. Mr. Fisch's PowerPoint presentation amazed me. Its amazing to think that China and India have more "AP" students than we the United States have people. I'm sure, that now as 2013 alot of things have changed, that we have more money in our technology budget. Of course, China and India have a lot of people, so I'm sure they still have more "AP" Students than we have people. I feel small as a person. There are about 7 billion people in the world, and many have the same goals and aspirations as i do, so in a way, it makes me feel like what I want to do insignifcant, because I have a couple thousand of people standing behind me in a line that want to do the same thing I do.

Danny Macaskill's video showed me that with hard work and perseverance you can do many things. I can't become good at anything unless I really tried hard and kept going, which itself is a skill I'm working on.

Learning is a very important thing. Without it, no one could have gotten anywhere, because we would not have learned how to. We need teachers to teach learners. The teachers need to learn the skill they have to teach. It's an ongoing chain that cannot be broken.
My role as a learner is to be a hard worker, and a great listener, so I can go on and live a good happy life.

  14. 1. After viewing Mr. Fisch's powerpoint, the facts that were shown just blew me away that there is just so many things I don't know about and i even live here. It makes me feel like if I do my part in the world learning, getting a great learning experience, and getting a job that I could definetly have a possibilty of creating new and better things to help the next generation and so on and so fourth. This helps me be reasured that anything truly is possible with so many options of people and possiblities.
    2. Danny Macaskill's "Inpired Bicycles" showed me that every body fails but only makes them better. This reminds me of the quote by Michael Jordan that tells how many shots and dunks he's missed in his career but is still one of the most known athletes. Referring back Danny's video though tells me no matter how many times you fail or get hurt that that doesn't mean give up and move on but to get up and keep trying and show that you just don't do that next time, to try a new or different way of accomplishing that goal. Danny's video shows that apply to school or basketball. If I get an F that on means study harder not to give up on school or the class. And in basketball just because I might make only 1 out of 100 shots to not give up but to try harder til I get 100 out of 100 shots and then try 200 shots and just get better and better every time.
    3. The value of learning is not to torture you with difficulties but to help you succeed in life and not end up living life working at a very cheap paying job living day to day by the check at the end of the week. My role as a learner is to actually participate and engage in class because you only go to highschool once so you might as well do it best since you only get one shot at it. And also to carry on generations of knowlege to keep the world turning.

  15. After watching Mr. Fisch’s world renown “Did you know?” powerpoint I was shocked at the statistics he showed. Especially the one where it talked about China soon becoming the worlds largest English speaking country. I know that they have a much bigger population than the United States but almost all of us speak English, to know that China will become the largest English speaking country when that’s not their first language is crazy. Some ideas that came to my mind while watching the video was how much the world is changing, and how fast it’s going. It makes me question my place in the world for sure because I was born in China. So I was 1 in a million, but that meant that there were also 1,300 people just like me according to the statistic he showed. That’s pretty scary to think about but kind of cool at the same time. This could impact me just by if I met one of these other “Hayden’s,” it would be really weird and hard to comprehend.

Also, in Danny Macaskill’s “Inspired Bicycles” it showed me that if you fall down you need to just get right back up. You fall down 4 times you stand up 5 times. If you practice over and over again you’re going to get it right, and get better. Everyone has potential, you just have to experiment with it. Find out what you’re good at, and when you do practice, practice, practice. Practice makes “better” because no one’s perfect, remember that. You can’t be perfect, but you can be close. I can apply what I saw in his adventures to my life by going around to different parts of the world/city/country and do what I love. Playing soccer, or just looking around at all the amazing sites at the city I’m in. That would be totally amazing!

Finally, the value of learning in my opinion is that it helps you for the rest of your life.
You’re going to need to know things for your future in everyday life. If you haven’t learned what you needed to, then you won’t be prepared for a job opportunity and you won’t know what to do to make sure to have a good, steady, long life. As a learner it’s my job to not take anything my teacher’s teach me for granted. I’ll most likely need it, and it’ll help me later in life. Also, it’s my job to listen, and try my best in all of my classes to get the most out of them that I can.

  16. 1. Mr,Fisch's PowerPoint Did You Know blew my mind away. Its shocking that America is behind on almost everything, while country's like China and Asia are exceeding everything. I felt bad for us because while I knew some of the facts already, it's still really hard to watch and see with your own eyes that while America isn't failing we're not exactly leading by example. I'm sure by now in 2013 numbers have changed but considering Asia and China still have a lot of people I'm sure that they're more AP students there then they're people here. Knowing all of these facts I feel very small and very slow.

    2. After watching Danny Macaskill's "Inspired Bicycles" it showed me that if you have dreams you should just work for them. Of course they're going to be bumps along the road but that's life you're going to crash sometimes. Plus what would you want a life where everything you do is perfect the very first time you tried it or a life where you have the accomplishment of trying so very hard for it and knowing you did it on your own. I would want the second choice because its say's a lot about the kind of person you are. This video taught me to never give up, even if you crash and burn a few times.

    3. The value of learning is to set you up for life and make something of yourselves. Granted school and learning is not for everybody, going, even if its only until your 16, will help you out more than you'll ever know. I know its sucks learning stuff that you think you'll never use again in real life, like algebra, the job you want to get doesn't include algebra, what if your kids job is and they need your help, you won't know how to do it and it'll suck. My role as a student is to be engaged and learn as much as I can I want to go to college and be successful and I can't be that if I'm not a good student. While I want to be a hard worker I also want to have fun and make the most out of my high school career.

  17. 1) After I watched the “Did you Know” powerpoint, I was shocked how fast our technology has improved over time and how out technology will improve to be even better in the future. Something else that was shocking to me was how there are so many people in the world just like us but we are all somehow one of a kind. One fact that stood out to me the most was in the future there will be a super computer that will not only be smarter than the human mind but the whole human race. It is crazy to think that our technology will soon outsmart us. After I watched this video I realized that there is so much about the world that I do not understand and don’t even know about. This video impacts me because I realize that even though I am one person out of everybody in the world I could still do something to impact the world and change it for the better. 2) “Inspired Bikes” by Danny Macaskill made me realize that everybody has potential to be great but they just have to work to get there. Greatness won’t just be handed over to you. The video also taught me that people have to keep on going and persevere even if it is tough and may seem impossible, because without perseverance Danny Macaskills could not have been able to be a great bicycler. I can apply this video to my own life by knowing that even if I fail at something, I have to try again and can’t quit just because I failed already. 3) The value of learning is that it is very important. Without knowledge people could not get jobs and could not continue to improve America to be better. My role as a learner is to take in as much knowledge I can and use it to my potential. My role as a learner is to also teach other people so that others are just as smart. That way everyone can put in their opinion and thoughts from what they have learned to work together for the future

  18. 1) After viewing Mr. Fisch's "Did you Know" PowerPoint the idea that we are no longer the top country in almost anything. Between China, India, and USA, the USA is closer to the bottom then we have been in a while. In this world I feel like as a citizen of the US I feel looked down on by china and India. This impacts me or could impact me because if china or even India can out do the USA then it could change the world and that can be either very bad or very good. The problem is that we don’t know wither is will be bad or good.

    2) Danny Macskill's video inspired me to do something that I love and work hard at I even if I fail a few times. This video taught me hard work, and perseverance can really pay off. This video really spoke to me. Not only did it tell me about hard work can pay off but it taught me that even if you fail 20 times, its still okay to get back on that bike and fail 20 more times. What I mean by this is its okay to fail, but its up to you wither you get back on the bike or not. Everyone has a purpose in life but its up to you to fail at 7 things but succeed on the 8th try.

    3) The value of learning can almost be described in so many ways. The way I see it is learning is going that extra step to know more. Its extending your knowledge and that is very important especially in the modern world. My role at learner is to be a 5 at the understanding at the end of the day. Its my responsibility to walk into class as a 5 or sometimes a 4 but just give my best effort in class all the time. Its my job to extend my learning of the world. Its also learning from mistakes or from lessons in school, or even from a friend, as long as you gain knowledge its learning.

  19. With Mr. Fisch's powerpoint, I learned a lot about where are world is going. India and China are doing so much better in school than we are. We need to keep up with the pace. Also, technology is becoming a massive part of our lives! Technology is great for us all and when we start to get jobs when we are out of college, we are probably going to be using technology in every part of our jobs. Technology is going to keep evolving and as amazing as it is, I don't want it to evolve so much as to we have to rely on it to get us through our day.
What I learned from Danny Macaskill's video of "Inspired Bicycles" is, when he fell down he got back up every time. If his trick did not work the first time he kept trying and trying until he succeeded! This video also showed me that, as long as you work as hard as you can toward your goal you can definitely reach it, it all depends on how much you want it.
Learning is very important in our lives. If we did not learn we would not be where we are today. We have to go into learning and even our every day lives with an open mind. We do not just learn from our teachers, we also learn from our peers. Also we do not just have to learn at school. We can learn every day weather it is with sports or even just hanging out with friends. We want to learn about the world around us as well. If we learn about the world around us then we will be able to give what we have to make the world a better place. My job as a learner is to keep an open mind in everything so that maybe I can change the world in the future. When learning you always have to keep an open mind.

  21. When I was watching the PowerPoint Mr. Fisch had created all the facts shocked me. I had thought that America was amazing at academics. This makes me think that my class is the change that America needs to get into the top 3 countries. Now the only way for America to get up to the top 3 countries is for the children of america to step up and do great in school. This makes me want to work harder and be the best that I can.

Danny Macaskill’s “Inspired Bicycles” is a great story of America. We all fall down, what separates us is what we do when we fall down. Do you get back up and keep fighting or do you sit there and give up. America is not about giving up and neither is Danny Macaskill. The future of america needs not to give up but to keep pressing on and doing better in school. I can use Danny’s adventures and apply them to my life by not giving up and trying to be the best at whatever I do.

Learning is taken for granted for some people. Some people just don’t see how important learning is to your success in life. Some people who aren't as fortunate in other countries would love to have your opportunity to learn because those who don’t have is see how important learning is to someones success. I need to take and get everything I can out of this wonderful opportunity that has been given to me. And that means doing the best I can.

  23. 1)Mr. Fisch's powerpoint was very interesting to watch. It makes me think of how different things are to what they seem. Those statistics really surprised me, how we spend so much more money on video games, instead of much more important things in the world. It also shows how different the future will be when we grow older. It makes me wonder about what my place in society will be and how it can affect the world as we know it. Also, It showed how amazing technology is advancing and how much it does for the world.
2)"Inspired Bicycles" has a great theme, that I think is a great one to live by my entire life with everything. In the video, he falls several times doing a trick. He never gives up and eventually completes it. It shows how that even if you fail, you have to learn from your mistakes, and keep moving forward. If you do that, you can achieve great things in life. This can compare to my life with going into high school. Times can be difficult, but i have to persevere through it all to be successful.
3)To me, the value of learning is one we should value the most. It is the base of moving on in life and getting a career. There, I will be playing my part in the world. My role as a learner is to put in full effort in class and be an active learner. I need to be responsible and organised with my work. That way I can reach my full potential.

  24. #1. The presentation made me realize how little we actually know about what's going on around us. We are so caught up in our own world that we lose sight of what's going on outside of it. I think nobody would have gone to look up the statistics on their own, but seeing them was so surprising. I did not expect that at all. The video was made a few years ago, where are the statistics standing now? How much has it changed? It is so much different than it was. We are living in a world that is constantly changing, I think we should pay more attention on what is happening around us. What is happening outside of our own little world affects us more than we think.
#2 This video made me think about how many times I have given up on small things. He tries and tries until he succeeds. He learns from his mistakes, every time he falls and gets back up he knows he is one step closer to succeeding. And eventually he succeeds and he is so proud. He teaches us that even when you feel like you cannot do it, you can. Just get up and try again.
#3 I think to understand the value of learning, you must be willing to learn. You should work hard and try your best(like the inspired bicycles video showed us). My role as a learner would be to bring my side. By this I mean being prepared for class, having all my materials and coming in with a positive attitude. I must be a student that is willing to learn.

  25. Mr. Fisch's Powerpoint was really interesting and revealing of the scale the world is on. It is balanced beteween so many different people doing different things that it seems as though if one person were to disssapear then nothing would happen and life would just go on. But this really isn't true, when one person goes away it changes all of our lives in one way or another through a sort of "butterfly effect". This thought made me realize just how important each and every person in our society is, because without them we wold be living very different lives.

Danny Mcaskill's inspired bicycles showed just how much human beings can achieve if they dedicate themselves to something they truly love to do. This is very different from the average American in that most of the people in our country wish they had a better job. Even though this may be true these people will commonly like their job better if they really try and work hard to accomplish their goals at work, and this concept can also apply to school and just how you perceive what you do in everyday life.
In general if you work harder you will get more reward from whatever it is you are doing.

Learning is a great for the human brain in incredible ways. Learning can be used for purposes as simple as giving your brain something to do or as complicated as planning out a strategy to peacefully resolve world war 3. This means that our goal as learners is to try and get as much out of the teaching that we receive as possible.

  26. 1. Mr. Fisch's presentation "Did you know" made me realize that although the United States is a superpower, we are not a superpower in education. I would first like to investigate what these countries are doing that is different than the U.S. Do they spend more money on education? Do they spend more time in school? Are the teachers more trained? One word to describe how I feel is "disappointed" and "unimportant". It makes me worry that my generation in America will not be able to make as positive of an impact in this world as the kids in India and China. I would like to have these questions answered so that one day the United States is at the top of this list.
2.Danny Macaskill's, "Inspired Bikes", is an excellent representation of setting a goal for yourself and observing yourself gradually achieving it. The key is setting the goal. For Danny, he knew that he needed to jump up on a fence, balance there, then ride on the top of it. Each time he tried, he could evaluate how far he got towards his goal. Failing is always a part of any process. His perseverance and drive made me think about incorporating it more in my life. I realized that no matter how many times I fail, I need to remind myself of my goals and get back up and try it again.
    3. Can you imagine not being able to learn? Either being mentally handicapped or not having the will or desire to want to learn? You life would be boring… Stagnant. The value of learning is the key to a full life. There is so much to observe and see in the world with learning. It makes any type of person a well-rounded one. My role as a learner is to be open to ideas. To be open to try different styles and ideas. My role as a learner is to challenge myself.

  27. After watching the the power point from Mr. Fisch what really strikes me about the facts presented is that this was a couple of years ago and we have far advanced past these facts stated. It makes me think about the world and the place I have in it by showing that the United States is trying to the best of its abilities to become better and every person who tries could make a small impact on the U.S. This impacts me because seeing all these statistics makes me want to try my hardest and to try to make a small impact.

Danny Macaskull’s video really makes you think about how much practice can really mean and how much patience you have to have and really makes you think of how hard you need to try to persevere though what you want to accomplish. How I can apply Danny’s adventures and bike tricks to my own life is by just pushing though things people might say are impossible and just really show my full potential all the time.

The value of learning is not just in your self its also what you can possibly learn from others around and what you take in and what you expect yourself to use later on. My role as a learner is to just try my best at what I do and no matter what never give up on what I intended to do at the beginning.

  28. Mr. Fisch’s power point was really interesting because it shows us that we as American’s are very self-centered and don’t entirely know what is going on in the world around us. I also thought it was interesting how China will soon become the number one English speaking country in the world.
The inspired bikes video was really cool because no matter how many times he got it wrong he just kept going. I think that is a good mind set to have because if you get something wrong the first time it doesn't mean you not good at that thing it just means that you have to keep trying.
Learning is very important. Without learning we could never get anything done. Without learning man would never have figured out how to build a fire or how to communicate. My role as a learner is to learn and use the knowledge in productive ways

  29. 2.) Danny Macaskill's, "Inspired Bikes" it really kinda showed me to not give up. Like he tried to do something on his bike and he couldn't but he keeped trying and he finally got it. Which is kinda what I have to keep doing. If I am struggling I need to keep trying and keep trying until I get it or understand it.
3.) The value of learning because if we never learned we wouldn't be able to go to collage and get a job and make money to stay alive. My role in learning is to us the knowledge later in life, for example math may be hard but it is really important to learn because you do math everyday. I want to learn because I really want to go somewhere in life.

  30. I found Mr. Fisch's powerpoint very intriguing with all of the facts about the world that we live in. I found the entire “Did You Know” presentation very insightful, especially as an American citizen. As a child, I was always taught that America was superior and perfect as a nation, but as this demonstrated, we are not perfect. While we spend money like crazy, other nations are expanding their knowledge and focusing very much on the learning of their youth. One thing that really amazed me about the facts was that we as American's depend so much on technology and increasing the use of it. So many other nations are so focused on education, it amazes me how many honors students they have. Overall, many things in that presentation surprised me and makes me think very differently about our world today.

The “Inspired Bikes” video was really inspirational to me. I totally got the message that hard work and determination can help you accomplish your goals throughout your life. This message is actually really close to my heart, because I grew up being pushed to the limit by everyone around me. People always taught me to work hard to get what I wanted. My dad would always make me work one step harder, and would never tell me I was done working. I feel very strongly about being able to work for what you desire because that is a huge part of life. I use this motive in everything that I do and I continue to push myself to grow as a person, athlete and thinker.

To me, learning is absolutely essential in everyone's life. However, the definition of learning is often altered by people my age. We look to learning as going to school, being in class, expanding our knowledge on a boring subject, when really, it is so much more than that. After we graduate and grow older, we will continue to learn every single day. You can learn about yourself, your world and almost anything that you can think of. Learning helps us to develop our own thoughts and beliefs based on what we know. It is a huge part of our daily life and never stops. My role as a learner is to soak in everything that I am taught. Whether this be from a teacher, parent or fellow peer, I will listen to them and take in everything they have to say because that can always expand my knowledge as a learner.

  33. 1. Mr Fisch's power point made me realize that there is a lot going on in the world that we didn't even know. Everyone is always on there phones, computers, and iPods that no one really uses time to find out around the world. I saw that we have good school systems but no alot of kids passing. I also noticed that in China a lot of babies are born, I wounder if they birth there babies at hospitals?

    2. They inspirational bike video was inspirational, He did something he put his mind to. When he fell off the bike or messed up he didn't just walk away, he got back on the bike and tried over and over again. Not alot of people do that, usually if you fail at something most people will quit. That's why i liked this video.

    3. I think the purpose of learning is so that you can get a good job in the future and so that you don't sound stupid talking. I also think its good to learn because it can get you into collage so then you can get a job and support a family, if you want one, That's why i think learning is important.

  34. 1. The fact that only 1 in 4 people who are employed have only been employed for less than a year. This surprises me because it makes having and keeping a job is a lot harder than it seems. Another fact that I thought was insane was that the number of texts sent and received each day exceeds the population (It seems like that's how many texts an average teenage girl sends every day). It makes me feel so small in the world and i feel like there's so much more that I could be and so much potential that isn't used to its full extent.

    2. After watching "Inspired Bicycles," I feel that it is a perfect metaphor for sticking with it and never giving up on yourself or others. There are so many things that you can accomplish with perseverance and hard work. No matter if its a good grade or doing tricks on a bike. There's and infinite amount of things that would pay off with perseverance; just the other day I finally completed a rock climbing problem that I had tried and failed at over the course of several days and I finally did it. When I let go of that last hold and hit the ground, I laid on my back feeling happy because I persevered and stuck to it which eventually resulted in me completing the climbing problem.

    3. The value of learning is the way that we continue going through life and being able to improve the things that we have. We have so much that we can do with what we learn like a career, a hobby a talent, etc. but learning helps us improve ourselves and the world for the better. Our roles as learners is to accept what we're learning so we can use what we learned to improve the things that we have and make things that we didn't. As learners we should be attentive and focused because what we learn in school and out defines us and who we are and become.

  35. Mr. Fisch's powerpoint made me look past my own stuggles in life and recognize the ones that others around the world have. The fact that 1 in 4 people who are employed have only been employed for less than a year really amazes me. It made me for once think of other peoples struggles and hardships and care about them more. It probably doesn't even stop there. That number probably increases every single day.

I had to watch inspired bicycles a few times before I actually came to a conclusion about what I thought it meant. After watching it, I learned that never giving up is a very important thing. This year, Mrs. Parmenter threw a huge, complicated piece of music at us plus a bunch of other demands. I was so nervous and so overwhelmed, I almost quit orchestra. Orchestra is the main thing in my life. It will most likely be my future as well. I want it to be. I couldn't give up. I had to practice my butt off and really work so I could not only please her, the teacher but please myself. Not giving up is the most important thing in life, especially when it's the thing you love. Like danny macaskill, he looks like he really loves biking and doing bike stunts. In the beginning of the video, he was having troubles getting up on the fence. The first time he fell, he could hjave just said, "I'm done. I quit." But he didn't. He stayed with it and he completed the challenge. I think "never say never" is a very important thing to tell yourself once in a while.

The value of learning is how we progress in our lives. Each day, we go through new things and we learn from them. I believe the more we learn, the more happy and successful we will be. We go to school everyday not to please the teachers. In high school, the teachers couyld care less if you're in class or not. It's not their life, it's ours. We choose what we listen to and take in everyday. As learners, our role is to learn from our mistakes and maybe even others and to therefore improve the world. We should try to pay attention everyday and take it all in because, like in mr fisch's powerpoint, not all children and teenagers in the world have the priveledge to go to school and learn the amazing things we do each and everyday.
